The Technology and History of the Directory

Drupal: This part of PsychInnovations uses Drupal, a CMS (content management system) that is free and open source.

History: The directory started on my hard drive years ago in a personal outliner called Action Outline. I adapted the outline to the web using Free Mind and software that made it more functional. But is was too unwieldy for users, they could not easily contribute, and it was hard to maintain. So, in early 2007, I begain transferring it into this format. I had to deal with some very challenging things, so it was not until June 2010 that it was in good enough shape to promote.

Outliners: Outliners are very valuable for collecting information. They're even better for finding it again! Some are simple, some are very advanced. Some synch with your smart phone. ListPro is one, and it allows quick sorting on various categories that you create. However, I rely almost entirely on Microsoft Word's outline functions. If you don't know about it, look in the help file and you'll be surprised at its versatility. I have written numerous books and courses for publishers using the outline function. Try View | Outline and you can drag, expand, collapse, and use styles (Format | Styles) the levels independently. In Help you can find the keyboard shortcuts.
